Picture the scene, you have just spent your evenings transferring all of your music from CD’s & Vinyl to your computer, painstakingly categorising them into decades and genres.  The next day you switch on your computer, and nothing happens apart from a loud clicking sound!  Your hours of hard work potentially wasted, and all because you had put off backing-up your data.

It is becoming all too common that important data isn’t being backed up, and it isn’t just home users, businesses are failing to backup important data as well.

We recommend carrying out a data back-up in at least three places.  We have seen all too often not only the inconvenience but the heartache of losing data, whether it’s precious family photos, business accounts or personal documents.  No computer hardware is infallible, hence why we advise customers to have a back-up routine, and to adhere to it!

Data loss can happen not only through hardware failure, accidental deletion, software corruption, hard drive failure, but by theft, fire, water damage or a power surge.

You can rest assured that anyone that has lost any data thought “It will never happen to me!”, or “I’ll back it up at the weekend”.  But, data loss is more common place than you may think.

Where can you backup?

With so many options available when it comes to backing-up data, it can be a minefield as far as deciding which option is best for you.

To help you to decide the most appropriate method for you, you’ll firstly need to know how much data you will be backing up, and whether you will be adding to it.  Is it 5GB, 10GB or 500GB and constantly growing?  If you will be regularly adding files, then the larger the capacity of the storage device the better.   For smaller amounts you could back up to a USB Flash Drive.

Cloud Storage

With an ever growing list of companies offering “Cloud Storage”, trying to find the right one for you is far from easy.  The ones we recommend to customers are “OneDrive” & “Google Drive”.  We are more than happy to advise and set-up “Cloud Storage” for you, and arrange for the backup to take place without you even having to do anything!
